1984 pt5

After several betrayals by people that Winston trusted, he is brought to the Ministry of Love to be tortured and after having to face his biggest fear, he betrays Julia and tells on her, which he leads to her torture. The Party made Winston believe that his beliefs were a disease that could be cured.
At the end of the novel, Winston finds himself cheering on with the rest of the crowd for the Big Brother, and he walks off, happy with his new-found love.
The Party, with all its power, managed to brainwash Winston.

I enjoyed the book a lot, although it was a bit static in some parts and I would recommend it .
It is a brilliant idea that the book is based on, and also very pessimistic about the future at the time which is now our reality in some ways.

I have started to read more of my book and I am really excited for the ending of the book because i want to know what happens really badly. :D

Animal farm chapter 3

All animals on the farm have a summer filled with labour and hard work so that they can provide themselves with food. The pigs, the most clever animals on the farm, devise an appropriate plan according to the harvesting capacity of each animal, they try and use the human tools which is slightly bizarre as they all agreed upon the complete removal of all objects that reminded of the men that once enslaved them. Nevertheless, this work and clever system that they have made have forced the farm's producing levels to exceed any limit that it had ever done before. Boxer, the strongest and most powerful animal on the farm, took care of most of the heavy lifting and created his own motto: "I will work harder" to force him to work at his full capacity without fail. Only Mollie and the cat avoided their daily duties. To all, this new system seemed perfectly fair and effectively paid off, but only one animal did not agree upon this; Benjamin. To him this felt like there was no change under their new leadership.

Every Sunday, the animals have a flag-raising ceremony. It has a green background and a white representation of a hoof and horn in the middle. The flag’s green background represents the fields of England, and its white hoof and horn symbolise the animals. The morning rituals also include a democratic meeting, at which the animals debate and establish new policies and rules for the farm. At the meetings, Snowball and Napoleon always voice the loudest opinions, though their ideas are always different.

Snowball decides to set several committees which include:

• Cleaning the cows tails
• educating the rats and the rabbits

Most of the committees she set up failed to have any success but the education of literacy and writing obtained something the positive. By the end of the summer all of the farm animals knew how to read and write to some extent which was useful for the animals so that they could communicate in silence and read what was going on in newspapers.

Napoleon takes no interest in Snowball’s committees. When the dogs Jessie and Bluebell each give birth to puppies, he takes the puppies into his own care, saying that the training of the young should take priority over adult education. He raises the puppies in a loft above the harness room, out of sight of the rest of Animal Farm. Around this time, the animals discover, to their outrage, that the pigs have been taking all of the milk and apples for themselves. The pigs try and explain that apples and milk help them concentrate, and since they are doing all the brainy work they need those foods. In the end they finally manage to convince the other farm animals.

The Night Angel Trilogy by Brent Weeks



During the Christmas holiday I read the Night Angel Trilogy by Brent Weeks. These books are fantasy-based novels. The book speaks of many of today’s life horrors like slavery, rape and murder. These horrors happen in the back alleys of a town called Cenaria. On the other side of town, live the rich. The author tries to surpass a message so that the reader can realise some of the problems of today’s life. Apart from that the book is about wetboys (who are paid assassins). The book follows a character that grows-up in the back alleys of Cenaria and finds his path to becoming a wetboy. The main character is known as Kylar and the reader follows his life and adventures, which are thrilling.
 The three books are very well written with compelling vocabulary and a fantastic plot. The author’s idol is George R. R. Martin, so Brent follows George’s style in a perhaps like adult-like way. Meaning that Brent Weeks’ books are about 600-700 pages with a medium sized writing as for George R. R. Martin writes 800-1000 pages in small writing. However GRRM is very well known thanks to Game of Thrones and BW’s Night Angel trilogy is less well known but I would still thoroughly recommend it. 

 This is the first book of the series called The Way of Shadows and as said in the title, this is when Kylar learns to become a wetboy. 

This is book 2, called Shadows Edge and we follow Kylar through a great adventure. 

This is book 3 called Beyond The Shadows. 

I finished "Looking for Alaska" early this holiday and it was a pretty good book, if I had to rate it, I would give it a 7/10. Miles is the young boy that goes to Culver Creek and falls in love with a girl names Alaska and they have a solid friendship but you can tell that they like each other in a romantic way. Right before a huge tragedy they were kissing in a bed but then suddenly she got a text and she stormed out and got in her car and after having one too many drinks, she dies in a car crash. Her death is right in the middle of the book and that part made me loose interest a bit but I continued reading anyways. Alaska's two best friends are Miles and the Colonel (his nickname) and after her death they set out on a mission to find out why she actually died, and whether or not she wanted to commit suicide, then they give up and accept the fact that she is dead and move on with life. One of their friends, Takumi, then tells them that he found out that she didn't commit suicide, she had just forgotten the anniversary of her mothers death and stormed off in the car while being intoxicated. They plan the most amazing prank ever witnessed by their school in honour of Alaska. After getting closure on this situation they then pull the most amazing prank that the school and ever witnessed.

I gave it a 7/10 because I don't like main characters dying in the middle books and the beginning was good but then after her death the book just dragged on, I was kind of forcing myself to finish the book.

Miles- he developed a lot dunning the book, he started off as a guy with no friends and no stories to tell and then turned into a guy that is more social and has a lot of friends and takes risks to have fun.

Half way there

I am half way through my private reading book, i am looking forward to finding out what happens later on in the last book of the collection. I hope you are enjoying your books as much as i am enjoying mine.

New Book! Crazy Rich Asians

Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan

Hey there, Peter here and happy new year to you all! I decided to pause the current book I am reading right now (dreadnought). As a change of pace, I chose a new fiction novel written by Kevin Kwan. In contradiction to it's 'un-sophisticated' title, the book projects a world of nouveau riche asians that became incredibly rich in the past few decades. The book revolves an Asian girl named Rachel Chu who was born and raised the States and her boyfriend named Nicholas Young who was born in a rich Chinese family in Singapore. One summer, he invited Rachel to his hometown, Singapore. Rachel agreed and she thought that she would meet a humble family with a normal quality life. Nick forgot to mention that his family is one of the richest and influential family in the world...

So far in the story, I read up to the part where Rachel accepts the invitation but Nick's family was not really aware of her existence. They held disdain against Rachel even before they met because she was a middle-class Taiwanese (judging from her last name). I have a feeling that they story will get interesting from here because so far, I like how the story flows smoothly and it is easy to follow. The language is not too hard for me to take in and overall, it is very addicting (it is hard for me to get really addicted to a book).

I think that it is important nowadays to acknowledge the 'new money' folks (especially from China) 

because in the future, I am sure that our society will be full of those 'social climbers' and they will emit an incredible amount of influence in it as well.
